How I'm Finding Peace In A World That Feels Like It’s Burning
Recently I learned about the three fires in Buddhism that are said to be at the root of most human suffering:
🔥 Greed
🔥 Anger/Hate
🔥 Ignorance/Delusion
And I can’t stop thinking about how our world is on fire from these very things.
And the person running this country? He’s fanning the flames.
Let's pause for a moment—
what came up as you read that?
Did anger or blame bubble up? Maybe even a sense of powerlessness?
If so, that makes total sense. There are horrible, unjust things happening in our world.
And yet... maybe it's possible to experience the pain of reality while also alleviating some of your suffering.
There’s a teaching in Buddhism called The Two Arrows.
The first arrow is the pain that life inevitably brings—loss, injustice, grief, heartbreak, burnout. It’s real. And unavoidable.
But the second arrow is the optional one we fire at ourselves:
The thoughts, reactions, and spirals that cause even more pain.
“This shouldn’t be happening.”
“It’s all falling apart.”
“I can’t do this.”
“What’s the point?”
The first arrow wounds us.
The second arrow keeps twisting.
What if, instead of firing the second arrow, we paused and responded with the 3 Life Boost C’s:
Compassion. Curiosity. Connection.
Let’s go back to those fires—and turn inward for a moment:
🔥 Greed
This isn’t just about money or material things.
It’s that insatiable “never enough” feeling:
Do more. Achieve more. Prove your worth.
It’s hustle culture. It’s tying your value to productivity or perfection.
It’s resisting discomfort by chasing distraction or dopamine.
And it’s fragile—because even when you “get there,” it’s still not enough.
Pause and ask:
👉 Where am I chasing external validation in order to feel like enough—instead of finding internal validation?
🔥 Anger/Hate
Anger often masks fear and vulnerability.
It’s your nervous system in fight mode—triggered, overwhelmed, reaching for control.
Blame gives a quick hit of relief—but it doesn’t solve anything.
It keeps you in the stress, not the person you're angry at.
Pause and ask:
👉 Where is anger or hate draining energy that you could be using to focus on the stressors that are in your control?
🔥 Ignorance/Delusion
This fire burns through the stories we tell—about ourselves, other people, and our circumstances.
“I’m not good enough.”
“They don’t care.”
“This will never change.”
The tricky part is… these stories feel true thanks to our Reticular Activating System (RAS)—a filter in the brain that constantly scans for information to confirm what we already believe.
So we end up seeing a distorted version of reality that reinforces our fears, shame, or hopelessness.
Pause and ask:
👉 Do I know with 100% certainty that this is true and no one could prove otherwise?
👉 If not, how is this an opportunity to learn more—or tell a story that feels more supportive?
I’m not okay with the way the world is burning.
And I don’t want to add to the fire.
So lately, I’ve been making more space to pause and reflect—to sit with the heaviness of this world while still staying grounded in who I am and what I’m here to do, regardless of what’s happening around me.
One thing I was debating was whether I wanted my Life Boost Mentorship to just be for veterinary professionals so that it felt like a safe space just for the veterinary community.
But I realized that isn’t what I want to be creating in this world. Yes, I want to create a safe community, but I
But the more I reflected, the more I realized:
What’s happening in veterinary medicine is a microcosm of what’s happening in the world.
And real change only happens when we stop living in silos and start reconnecting—with ourselves and each other.
Vet med only works when clients, pet parents, and veterinary teams work together.
And the same is true for humanity.
Our profession is just one small piece of who we are.
We have so many more similarities than differences.
We all share a nervous system that wants to keep us safe.
We’re all impacted by broken systems.
And yet, the things that make us different shouldn't be a threat.
We’re all shaped by different experiences and perspectives.
And we all deserve spaces where it’s safe to be uniquely who we are.
In this mentorship, your whole self is welcome.
It’s where you get to practice being human again.
Its a place to:
- Stop performing, hiding, or white-knuckling your way through life to be “enough”
- Meet yourself with compassion—even the parts you’ve judged, resisted, or buried
- Be more you and less who the world told you to be
- Reclaim the version of health and success that isn’t motivated by the 3 fires - not rooted in judgment, shame, or perfectionism, but grounded in compassion, your inner wisdom, values, and aliveness
- Explore emotions like anger, shame, desire, and fear with curiosity instead of judgment.
Because real transformation requires real safety.
With leaders taking advantage of the fires we’re already suffering from to create even more reactivity and division, the most powerful thing we can do is meeting those fires with compassion, curiosity, and connection.
Even the most self-aware person will feel trapped if they don’t feel safe expressing their needs or speaking their truth.
So this is your space to practice.
To explore.
To be met with compassion, not comparison.
If the world around you feels like it’s burning, and you’re craving a space where we prioritize curiosity, connection, and compassion—
where you can reconnect with yourself and contribute to something bigger—
you’re invited to join this little community when you’re ready.
Just because there are fires around us doesn't mean we have to be consumed by it.
